Electrons Formed Whirlpools in Graphene, and It’s Straight Out of Chapter 8:
“Electronic transport in a conductor can display properties similar to fluid flow if collisions between electrons dominate over collisions with impurities and lattice excitations in the sample. Signatures of this hydrodynamic regime have been identified in graphene, but stationary vortices, a prediction of the theory of hydrodynamic flow, have remained tricky to observe. Palm et al. uncovered these current whirlpools at room temperature in samples of graphene encapsulated by hexagonal boron nitride. The observation was enabled by the use of sensitive magnetometry based on nitrogen vacancy centers in diamond, a noninvasive technique that does not require a cryogenic environment. —Jelena Stajic”
This isn’t fringe theory… It's reproducible lab reality. When the material is pure enough and electrons are dense enough, the old “particle in a wire” model breaks down and the flow becomes hydrodynamic… vortical… toroidal.
